Huge cannabis farm with 600 plants discovered at disused Whitburn pub

A huge cannabis farm has been uncovered in a disused pub in South Tyneside.
Police discovered the haul of 600 cropped plants when they searched the empty Whitburn Lodge on Mill Lane, Whitburn, on Monday.
Speaking to the East Shields and Whitburn Community Area Forum (CAF), sergeant Julie Beattie said dismantling the illegal operation was “some job”.
She said the building was in an isolated area and someone had cut a padlock off a gate to gain entry to the building.
Sgt Beattie said some nearby builders had smelled cannabis but had not reported it to the police.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 5.25pm on Monday. October 10, police attended Whitburn Lodge in Mill Lane and found the remnants of a cannabis farm.
“The remnants have now been removed and anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
Sgt Beattie said the empty building was dangerous and asked South Tyneside councillors if any plans had been submitted to renovate it.
Tracey Dixon, councillor for Whitburn and Marsden, said there were no plans for it at the moment but agreed it was an “eyesore”.
Note: As well as this article and the other article regarding the Whitburn Lodge being put up for sale, it was also removed from sale again with a demolition notice was briefly put in place and which was also removed... Clearly nothing as yet has actually been resolved, as it's clearly still there... Of course, any more recent news story regarding the lodge will also get posted to this website.
